Tony Cochran Guitars Custom #62
Back in 1951, Wap Bennitov was the baddest guitarist on the Dark Bayou roadhouse circuit. The Light Bayou roadhouse circuit was the usual series of dives, strip joints, and bars that snaked through Arkansas and Louisiana. The Dark Bayou circuit made the Light circuit look like a train of church camps. Wap played a version of the Blues that has long been banned, the Googly-Eye. Googly-Eye Blues would knock the happy right out of anyone, but replaced it with a swagger that mixed sneer with a slouch and changed singing to the death wail of a thousand drunken wolves. He regularly used this guitar as a club to escape in the wee hours before the crowd turned completely ugly. Hence, the 10 lb weight. He called it Belle because he thought it was pretty. As far as the crustiness goes: might be rust, might be blood, but it sure looks nasty.
