Tony Cochran Guitars Custom # 59
The Rising Sun electric guitar has been located! Back in the early 60's it was ensconced in a glass case in the lobby of Madame Bibi's House of Happy. We all remember that from Tulane Avenue in New Orleans. Rumor was, if some guitar slinger played for Madame Bibi, and she liked it, the Rising Sun was theirs forever. If she didn't like it, she got to have her way with the guitarist . . . and she was mean, demanding, and just stopped short of ugly. The unsated Madame Bibi never awarded the Rising Sun to anyone in her lifetime. She died during an unfortunate, but spirited, romp with the last man who failed to play his way into its possession. After she died, he pushed his way to the case, smashed the glass, and removed the guitar. He was last seen wandering down Tulane, naked as a Jaybird, and dragging his prize behind him. I didn't get the guitar until 2012, when I traded it for an old, nonfunctioning Theremin. I never hear House of the Rising Sun the same way since this story was told to me.
