Tony Cochran Guitars Custom #51
The Shrike electric guitar was Changa Atwood's "go to" for his little known, but blistering and amazing solo "Shroomery." Yes . . . Changa started the art form of extreme shredding self indulgence that has resulted in 15,000 covers of Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption" all over You Tube. Changa played in the band "The Fitzbox", a grimy group of guys who toured an even grimier circuit of bars in LA in the late 70's. In most cases, as the evening wore on, band members would pass out, wander away for food, or just sit and smile quietly having forgotten why they were there. Changa would save the day for all of their paychecks by extending his guitar solo to 50% or more of the set. "Shroomery" was a masterpiece of wild notes dovetailed with the gut wrenching musical sobs of a blues wrought from horrible sadness and anger. His Flying V derived guitar "Shrike" was crafted by himself from 3 other guitars he had destroyed. Its most unforgettable features are the Faltifier, which still works, and the Cream Button. There are no known recordings of "Shroomery" in existence and Changa has gone to the great gig in the sky. Here's your shot at fame.
